Appendages of Clostridium bifermentans spores.
Four distinct spore appendage types were detected in an electron microscope survey of 12 strains of Clostridium bifermentans. A smooth tubular appendage and a feather-like appendage are described in detail. In addition, hirsute tubular appendages and small pin-like appendages are depicted. Spores of four strains apparently lack appendages.
متن کاملThe lecithinase of Clostridium bifermentans toxin.
Miles & Miles (1947, 1950) showed that culture filtrates of Clostridium bifermentarw, an organism previously shown to give the Nagler reaction (Hayward, 1943), decomposed lecithin enzymically with production of a water-soluble organic phosphoric compound. This action was inhibited not only by homologous antisera but also, though less specifically, by Clostridium welchii antitoxin. Miles & Miles...
متن کاملClostridium bifermentans bacteremia with metastatic osteomyelitis.
Osteomyelitis caused solely by an anaerobic organism is uncommon. We report a case of recurrent Clostridium bifermentans bacteremia resulting in metastatic osteomyelitis involving the sacrum, spine, and ribs. The emergence of resistance of this organism to imipenem and metronidazole is noteworthy because of the usual susceptibility of clostridial species to these antibiotics.

Good sporulation was induced in batch culture using carbon sources that have in common the effect of reducing growth rate.
متن کاملChanges in resistance to radiation and heat during sporulation and germination of Clostridium botulinum 33A.
During sporulation, Clostridium botulinum 33A developed resistance to ultraviolet and gamma rays about 2 hr prior to its development of heat resistance. During germination, loss of resistance to heat, ultraviolet radiation, and gamma radiation occurred essentially simultaneously.
